The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Network Analyst. This person will be responsible for maintaining software, servers, and an extensive regional wired and wireless communications network, supporting traffic signal operations that utilize advanced traffic management system software and traffic signal controller programming.

This position is part of the Operation Green Light Program which is a cooperative effort to improve the operation of traffic signals on major routes throughout the Kansas City area. This is accomplished through signal coordination, network communications, incident response, knowledge and resource sharing, and prompt diagnosis and dispatch for malfunctions.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Traffic Signal Analyst is based out of the Operation Green Light office located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. This role supports arterial traffic signal operations by working with advanced traffic management system software, servers, and an extensive regional wired and wireless radio network.  This job will diagnose network communication systems and repair or replace equipment.

What you’ll do

  • Configure and administer the central signal system control software, providing an interface to approximately 1500 traffic signals and 28 cities over a wide area IP network.
  • Configure and administer network connections and firewalls between the Operation Green Light (OGL) network and that of partner cities and agencies.
  • Conduct field inspections of contractor work involving installation of traffic signal controller cabinets; computer network hardware such as servers, routers, switches, etc., wireless radio equipment in both licensed and unlicensed bands. Ensure that the contractor’s work complies with all relevant standards and design plans.
  • Troubleshoot, configure, repair and replace network equipment in server rooms, tower shelters, traffic signal cabinets and other areas.
  • Maintain various inventory databases, as well as SolarWinds for network management and Brightly for work ticketing.
  • Prepare and assist with traffic signal operations, including signal timing analysis and design, advanced traffic management system software for real time signal operations, incident management and traffic signal controller programming.
  • Assist with managing consultant, contractor and vendor agreements.
  • Maintain the Genetec Security Center video distribution system.

ABOUT YOU

Skills you’ll need

  • Familiar with ethernet troubleshooting and configuration.
  • Familiar with Solarwinds, Brightly, Security Center, Mikrotik, and SonicWall.
  • Knowledge of wireless radio principles, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with traffic signal controller programming.
  • Ability to manage network IP schema and VPN networking.
  • Ability to review and understand blueprints, diagrams, and plans.
  • Ability to maintain and verify security of critical network infrastructure, field, and user equipment. Able to verify LAN/WAN policies and ensure security procedures are followed.
  • Ability to assist in server operating system and software maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various customers and partners

Basic requirements

Traffic Signal Analyst I - Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related field. 
  • Certifications: None. Ability to become certified as an IMSA Field Tech Level I, Transportation Center System Specialist Level I.
  • Licenses: Driver’s license.
  • Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education and experience may be considered to meet minimum qualifications.

Traffic Signal Analyst II - Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or a related field. 
  • Minimum two years related work experience.
  • Certifications: IMSA Field Tech Level I, Transportation Center System Specialist Level I.
  • Licenses:  Driver’s license.
  • Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education and experience may be considered to meet minimum qualifications.

Physical demands and work environment

Work involves exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  This position involves sitting most of the time but may involve standing or walking for periods of time.  This position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, keyboard, and other office equipment.  This position requires the ability to bend and reach at both ground level and overhead.  Other physical requirements include: Holding and gripping objects, ability to communicate clearly to accurately convey information, visual ability to distinguish color, acuity, and depth perception.


Work performed primarily is in an office environment with good working conditions and an almost complete absence of extreme noises and unpleasant or hazardous elements.  Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions, or safety or health hazards. Must have the ability to travel by company vehicle throughout the area served by the regional systems.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Starting salary for a Traffic Signal Analyst I is from $50,600 to $64,525 per year, depending upon qualifications.

Starting salary for a Traffic Signal Analyst II is from $57,400 to $73,236 per year, depending on qualifications.
