Job Description:

This position will support the Health Equity Task Force (HETF) as it seeks to address health inequities in Wyandotte County. The position will manage the facilitation and promote the success of the HETF as it:


Works to identify health inequities and the communities that are most affected in Wyandotte County and bring resources and services to those areas of greatest need. Advocates for changes to UG policies, ordinances, systems, environments, and practices that can address the identified health inequities. Evaluate and track health disparities by prioritizing short, intermediate, and long-term goals.


This position will involve frequent in-person interaction with UG department heads and community partners/members/residents of Wyandotte County to develop culturally appropriate and accessible public communications and partner with community organizations to identify under-resourced populations.


Strong group facilitation skills as well as public speaking ability are required. Project design & management skills, facilitation, and collaboration skills are highly recommended.  


This position works with the HETF and other community organizations to provide on-the-ground support and fill in health gaps where needed during emergency-related events. Prior experience working on health equity issues, building cross-sectional coalitions, community organizing with diverse populations, and graphic design are a plus.


Applicants must be comfortable working in ambiguity, working with different leadership styles, and building consensus across coalitions.


Scope of Work:

The Unified Government Public Health Department (UGPHD) is seeking a candidate with proven leadership skills to promote the goals of the HETF and carry out its strategies and activities. The HETF is a community-led collaboration between the UGPHD and the HETF members, including representatives from the University of Kansas Medical Center, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Hispanic/Latino organizations, local Black churches, and other community-facing organizations working on health equity in Wyandotte County.


Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health or healthcare OR equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory level experience within a healthcare agency, government organization or a community-based organization
  • Demonstration of project-level engagement in health equity experience
    Comfortability working in ambiguity, with different leadership styles, and building consensus across internal and external groups/coalitions. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. 
  • Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid KS driver’s license.


Preferred Qualifications:


A master’s degree in social work, public health, business management

  • Minimum of 5 years of group facilitation and/or coalition-building experience
  • 5+ years of social work or public health experience
  • 3+ years of project/program management work experience
  • 2+ years of strategic planning, grant management, resource development, and community engagement experience
  • Ability to work well and communicate effectively with people of varying educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with applicable laws regarding confidentiality and release of health information.
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, and Canva is a plus.



All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte County or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment, all employees must pass a post-offer physical examination and drug screen. And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
