Position Summary: 

The Unified Government Public Health Department (UGPHD) is seeking applicants for a Health Equity Coordinator position. Wyandotte County, KS, experiences some of the poorest health outcomes in the state of Kansas and some of the starkest inequities in terms of who is experiencing those poor health outcomes. This position will use a data-driven and evidence-based approach, in alignment with the department's strategic priorities, to provide technical expertise, project management, and leadership related to the development, implementation, and oversight of health equity initiatives. Most of this position’s work is community-based, but the position will support some internal DEI efforts. Current community-based initiatives include Racism as a Public Health Crisis and the Health Equity Task Force. This work includes planning and implementing collaborative projects and will require a wide variety of technical and relationship skills. The position will be responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with a wide variety of community members and entities (e.g., schools, community-based organizations, legislators, and social service agencies) that have an interest or need to improve health equity in Wyandotte County.

 

Job Description:

  • Planning & Operations Division leadership

  • Provide subject-matter-expertise to the Director’s Office regarding strategic planning, change management, communications, quality improvement, PHAB accreditation, and performance management. 

  • Provide support to the UGPHD in achieving a culture of quality through staff training and/or the management of health equity quality improvement projects.

  • Provide support and consultation to division supervisors, managers, and leadership in health equity efforts. 

  • Participate in the UGPHD's performance management system, including setting appropriate goals, metrics, and benchmarks.

  • Ensure the UGPHD is actively analyzing relevant public health and DEI data available and identifying opportunities for application.

  • Advocate for the use of the Health in All Policies approach to decision-making by elected officials, Unified Government administration, and community leaders.

  • Demonstrate visibility and support as a sounding board and resource to Division staff.

  • Work collaboratively with business and fiscal staff to ensure all reporting and performance requirements are met. 

  • Participate in the public health orientation training.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related program experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in public health with an emphasis in health equity


Foundational knowledge of public health, health equity, and proven methods to reduce inequities is expected. Must be comfortable speaking to a variety of audiences on behalf of the department.


Demonstrated ability to work well with people of various ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and life experiences. Ability to work collaboratively in a team, manage multiple priorities, and have exceptional time management and organizational skills. Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid KS driver’s license.  A background check and drug screen will be conducted on potentially selected candidates. Must reside in Wyandotte County or relocate to the county within 12 months of hire.


All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte County or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment, all employees must pass a post-offer physical examination and drug screen. And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
