We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Planning Intern to join our team. We are looking for an intern interested in research and the building and codes division of county government. The intern will assist the Planning Director and Planner in the revision to the 2011 Land Development Code. This intern will complete relevant research into other regulations and assist with revisions of the fifteen chapters of the Land Development Code. The ability to research and understand regulations adopted by cities and counties as well as the ability to present these regulations to members of the Planning Department will be necessary for this internship.

Responsibilities:

Research regulations of jurisdictions similar to Clay County

Collaborate with team members to develop regulation changes appropriate for Clay County and innovative ideas for the revised code.

Use gathered data to make suggestions for amendments to include in the updated Land Development Code

Edit existing documents to correct errors or conflicting sections.

Produce a written summary of research of local jurisdictions Codes and regulations and of Counties similar to Clay County nationwide.

Present report to Planning Director and Planner

Requirements:

Currently pursuing a degree in a related field

Strong organizational skills with the ability prioritize effectively

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Proficient in data analysis and research techniques

Basic understanding of environmental law and urban planning principles in regard to land development is a plus

This is an unpaid internship position that offers valuable hands-on experience in planning & zoning and local government. We are committed to providing a supportive learning environment where interns can develop their skills and gain practical knowledge in different aspects of the office including the building and codes division.

The position begins now and will run into 2025 when the project should be completed. This allows for a shorter or longer term internship as needed that is flexible with setting a schedule that works for all.
