We are looking for an intern with a passion to learn about internal operations of a local government and will bring with them curiosity and skills in strategic thinking. This management internship offers the intern a hands-on experience with financial forecasting for County Park operations, compiling data and analyzing budgeted amounts versus actual amounts to improve countywide budgeting functions, and developing an equipment and vehicle replacement program.
Responsibilities:
Utilize the County's financial system for data compilation to review expenditures and revenues of Park programs for forecasting purposes, including reviewing best practices for efficiencies and financial sustainability.
With departments, review actual expenditures compared to budgeted.
Provide a recommendation for a sustainable equipment replacement program.
Authorization to enhance budgeting accuracy.
With departments, evaluate life cycles of equipment and vehicles along with best practices to manage a replacement program.
Produce a report and present it to the Commission on Park operations including a profit/loss report on major programs and recommendations to address deficiencies and improve programs.
Prepare and present a report to the leadership team identifying budgeting trends by departments that will assist with improving the allocation of budgeted resources.
Requirements:
Currently pursuing a degree in Public Administration or a related field
Strong organizational skills with the ability prioritize effectively
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Basic understanding of compiling and analyzing data on revenues and expenditures
This internship is paid $18.00 per hour and offers valuable hands-on experience in public administration in local government. We are committed to providing a supportive learning environment where interns can develop their skills and gain practical knowledge in different aspects of the office including presentation skills, identifying budgeting trends, exploring best practices, and developing recommendations.
Work will be performed during business hours and the weekly schedule will be worked out with the intern. If the internship is only for the summer months, the work schedule will be full-time.
