The City of Basehor is hiring for a Maintenance Worker. Basehor is a growing city in the southeast corner of Leavenworth County and is uniquely positioned with great accessibility to the Greater Kansas City Metro Area. Basehor is the 2nd fastest growing city in Kansas with a population of 5,000 or more. Basehor’s population in the last certified census in 2020 is 6,896 residents and has increased in population by 48.9% in the last 10 years. Basehor is also the 3rd safest city in Kansas.


POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Streets and Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker will perform manual labor. Patching and sealing roads, performing maintenance on city streets and alleys, and performing concrete pouring projects. Maintaining city facilities and parks. This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and effective communication and public relation skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates department equipment including rollers, trucks, backhoes, and other city equipment
  • Assists with the removal of damages and defective materials in city roads
  • Inspects, prepares, maintains and repairs department equipment
  • Assists with repairing potholes, utility cuts, overlays, and compaction for asphalt or other road surface types
  • Performs street sealing and patching duties
  • Maintains and turns in daily time sheets to maintain records of man hours and materials used on various projects
  • Places and removes warning signs, cones, barricades, and flashing lights as needed
  • Repairs and installs street and traffic signs
  • Performs janitorial duties on city facilities and park property
  • Paints crosswalks, shoulder lines, and stop bars
  • Cleans and maintains the department shop area
  • Assists with responding to emergency calls
  • Performs concrete pouring duties
  • Mow and trims city property and parks
  • Assists other departments as the need arises
  • Provides snow and ice removal during inclement weather
  • Flags traffic at construction sites
  • Delivers necessary materials and supplies to construction sites
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned

Experience: No previous experience is required.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Technical Skills: A working knowledge of department equipment maintenance and repairs, traffic signs and markings, and mathematics is required. This employee must be able to operate trucks, tractors, air compressors, rollers, street painting machines, and other department equipment. The ability to judge distances accurately, to maintain department equipment, to follow department policies, and to read and interpret written instructions, maps, manuals, and schematics is required. This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and effective public relations, oral and written communication skills.
