
Crew Leader - Facilities
The City of Overland Park has a full-time Crew Leader- Facilities position available in the Facilities Management and Operations Division within the City Manager's Office.
SUMMARY:
The position of Crew Leader - Facilities acts as a lead person on remodel and facility improvement projects, preventative maintenance on equipment and mechanical systems and other facility related tasks in City facilities. Instructs and directs facilities maintenance technicians to complete tasks that maintain and improve City facilities and equipment. Works with leadership staff to estimate, plan and coordinate facilities related projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as lead person and instructs and directs facilities maintenance technicians on facilities maintenance, repair and improvement projects.
- Assists in the planning, estimating and coordination of facility improvement and maintenance projects.
- Maintains necessary records of equipment, maintenance repairs and project plans and specifications.
- Oversees facilities maintenance technicians in daily job tasks to complete help desk tickets.
- Performs routine inspections of building envelope, grounds and interior to ensure weather tight and sound building structure.
- Inspects buildings and systems for proper operation.
- Checks mechanical systems, electrical and lighting systems, plumbing and life systems daily.
- Makes necessary repairs and adjustments as needed.
- Responsible for safety on projects and repairs including barricades, signage, scheduling and notification.
- Oversees proper usage of PPE and safe work habits.
- Manages schedules and timelines of facilities projects to ensure they are on schedule and budget.
- Assists in removal of ice/snow from facility walkways and public access areas.
- Assists in overseeing and coordinating outside contractors when required.
- Acts as Manager, Facilities Management in absence of Manager as required.
- The employee will be required to participate in a rotation for weekly on-call support to respond to emergencies outside of regular business hours or shifts.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree in Construction Management preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Three to five years of general maintenance experience with knowledge in the following trades: Construction, HVAC, plumbing and electrical and carpentry.
- One year experience in work crew supervision.
SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATION(S):
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Must have completed OSHA 30 training through an approved credentialing entity approved by the Facilities Engineer or designee.
- Must successfully complete and demonstrate a knowledge of eight (8) hours of training annually as it pertains to facilities maintenance. The avenue in which the courses and/or training is completed must be approved by department leadership.
- Access to the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) is required, so the following KCJIS requirements apply: must be at least 18 years of age; must not have been convicted of a felony; must not have been convicted of a serious misdemeanor; and must not have an arrest history the nature and severity of which warrant disqualification.
SKILLS:

- Working knowledge of required tools, specifically; screw drivers, tape measures, pliers, wrenches, hammers, benders, drills, saws, grinders, vacuums, sewer machines, generators, etc.

- Ability to estimate equipment and supply usage and order replacements based on need and use.
