
Communications Specialist
The City of Merriam is seeking an experienced professional to support the City’s mission by promoting a positive public image, upholding the City’s values, and fostering a culture of collaboration and strategic initiatives. In this role as the City’s communications expert, this position will utilize various media to share community news, events, services, and surveys. Will be responsible for developing and implementing the City’s community engagement and communications plans to keep Merriam residents, visitors, and businesses well-informed. Additionally, this position requires proactively writing and creating engaging content for various platforms, including social media, websites, e-newsletters, magazines, videos, news releases, postcards, letters, advertisements, and other promotional materials, and also assists the Assistant to the City Administrator in preparing the budget and managing expenditures related to communications.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university in communications, journalism, or a related field
- 2-4 years in the field of journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related area
- 2-4 years of municipal experience or similar preferred
- Any combination of equivalent education or experience is acceptable
