FY2024 POSITION PAY GRADE: 39                                            
SALARY RANGE: $20.73/hour - $31.54/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:    The Water laborer position assists with the operation and maintenance of the city’s water distribution system and water treatment plant to provide safe and consistent water service to residents, businesses and visitors; and to protect the environment and comply with local, state and federal laws. Laborers are given the time necessary to obtain the required operators certification license. All laborers are to report to their Chief Operators.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Install, repair and maintain water pipelines, taps, valves, meter pits, fire hydrants, pumps, and motors.
  • Respond to after hour emergencies.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain treatment plant facilities.
  • Inspect and maintain water distribution system.
  • Install, program, and monitor water meters.
  • Conduct regular water sampling tests and review and analyze results.
  • Respond to citizen complaints.
  • Prepare and set traffic warning signs to redirect traffic around work sites and flag traffic as needed.
  • Availability to cover some holiday shifts for treatment plant coverage.
  • Perform utility locates for water mains and services.
  • Maintain proper chemical levels and feed rates.
  • Strive to obtain a Water Distribution (II) license and/or a Drinking Water Treatment (C) license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manual labor includes lifting and carrying heavy loads, bending and stooping.
  • Exposure to heights and confined spaces
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Exposure to dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals, and infectious disease.
