Nestled in the heart of western Missouri, Clay County seeks a dynamic, passionate, innovative leader to serve as its Road & Bridge Deputy Director with a strong track record of successfully managing all aspects of infrastructure, maintenance, repair, and planning. Located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, Clay County is responsible for 380 miles of roadways, 72 bridges and related infrastructure that serve a rural/urban area with a growing population and welcoming communities. With a population of 257,000 residents, Clay County encompasses 409 square miles. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or a related field), OR ten (10) years of progressive leadership in a governmental Public Works Department including at the level of Director, Deputy/Assistant Director, or City Engineer required. Other experience requirements include:


  • Evaluating and programming street pavement network for maintenance and capital improvements.
  • Conducting onsite inspections to verify compliance of approved contracts, construction drawings and standards, applicable codes, and ordinances.
  • Supervising and scheduling day-to-day operations of maintenance staff.
  • Presenting to governing bodies and public meetings.


The starting salary is $94,515 - $102,315 DOE, annually. Along with a competitive salary, the County offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
