Full-time position available with the City Planning & Development Department, Long Range Planning & Preservation Division, located at 414 East 12th Street. Normal Workdays/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

  • Supervises and coordinates assigned professional, technical, and clerical personnel engaged in preparing long range area plans and historical preservation of a comprehensive and complex character, in assembling and interpreting economic, social, and related data for city planning projects.
  • Prepares and presents reports on such proposals to appointed and elected boards and commissions provides prompt and courteous customer service to the public, developers, elected officials, appointed officials and large array of professional disciplines related to area and historical planning.
  • Interprets and applies city policy and regulations, regarding area plans, city comprehensive plan, and historic preservation.
  • Acts as technical advisor to subordinate personnel in solving difficult assignments and in reviewing the objectives, techniques, or resultant findings of assigned programs.
  • Performs research, planning, and technical analysis for more complex planning projects; supervises the preparation of comprehensive reports based upon careful research and study of planning and related problems.
  • Assists in the development of departmental objectives and policies through consultation with the Planning Manager and on planning operations, activities, programs, plans.
  • Assists in preparing and reviewing requests of the divisional budget, interviewing prospective employees, training new employees, and in directing divisional operational processes.
  • Reviews and approves prepared comprehensive reports on planning, zoning, renewal, and related problems.
  • Develops and supervises training programs for personnel.
  • Maintains necessary records and prepares reports on assigned work group activities and progress.
  • AICP Certification with the American Planning Association required.
  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRES an accredited master’s degree in planning and 3 years responsible professional experience in city, regional, or urban planning work; OR an accredited bachelor’s degree and 5 years of professional experience in city, regional, or urban planning work including 2 years professional work in directing a program or section. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by the city. Preference given for supervisory experience, and previous experience in long range planning or historical preservation.
