The Grandview Fire Department is a dedicated team of professionals providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, and community education.


The Opportunity

The City of Grandview is seeking an experienced, innovative, and community-focused Fire Chief to lead its Fire Department. The Fire Chief will oversee a team of 3 Assistant Chiefs, 9 Captains, 9 Apparatus Operators, 1 Fire Marshal, and 24 EMT/Paramedic firefighters, ensuring the highest standards of emergency response, safety, and operational excellence. The Fire Department is supported by a full-time Administrative Assistant.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management: Direct all operations of the Fire Department, including strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
  • Emergency Services: Oversee fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, and disaster preparedness.
  • Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with the community, city officials, and regional partners to promote fire safety and public education.
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to maintain a highly skilled and responsive department.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage the department’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource allocation.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining a safe and effective work environment.
  • Represents the City in labor discussions and negotiations.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in fire service, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (e.g., Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, or equivalent).
  • Missouri follows the International Fire Service Accrediting Congress (IFSAC). The Southeast follows ProBoard requirements. Both are acceptable norms.
  • EMT or Paramedic certification required.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, budget management, and personnel leadership.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to community engagement.
  • Knowledge of modern fire suppression, EMS, and emergency management practices.
  • Ability to obtain Missouri Fire Chief certification within one (1) year of hire.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $124,696 - $168,334/year, commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision and 13 paid Holidays
  • 100% City funded L6 LAGERS pension plan and 3% matching Deferred Compensation.
  • Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
