ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Nutrition Innovations Specialist II (Double Up Food Bucks) is a full-time role that will support the implementation of public health and nutrition initiatives, including the Double Up Food Bucks - Heartland program.   The Double Up Food Bucks program works with community partners, farmers markets and grocers across Kansas and Missouri to help SNAP recipients utilize nutrition incentives to purchase and consume fresh vegetables and fruit.  

In this role, you will focus work on supporting program implementation, particularly in grocery stores. You will work with the Project Director and community partners to promote, implement, evaluate, and improve the program. In this position, you will assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting data about the program’s operations and feedback from various stakeholders. You will work with a wide variety of grocery stores including medium to large chains and small independent stores in rural, suburban, and urban areas across Kansas and Missouri to implement the Double Up program.

What you’ll do

  • Work with grocers to implement the program in their stores.
  • Work with grocer associations, community development foundations, the Rural Grocery Initiative, and other organizations to identify resources grocers can utilize if needed to implement the program.
  • Support the implementation of the Double Up Food Bucks program by managing agreements with grocers and monitoring contract performance through data collection and site visits.
  • Work with project partners to design and carry out marketing to promote the program to community organizations and SNAP recipients. Identify potentially underserved populations that may need more targeted and accommodating promotional approaches.
  • Work internally in the Aging and Adult Services Department and MARC, in general, to connect Double Up Food Bucks to other initiatives and programs.

  • Experience working with community partners.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Understanding of information technology solutions to track program activities and outcomes.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple demands.
  • Understanding of the social determinants of health and health inequities experienced by many in the communities served.
  • Technical Knowledge and Training Support:  Works with partners to implement the program utilizing best practices and technologies from the field and looking for ways to develop new best practices. Knowledge of grocer reward and coupon programs and the use of technology is important to the position. Conduct training for grocery store employees on how to implement the program.
  • Collaboration:  Works with others toward common goals; demonstrates respect for others; shares ideas; listens to other’s opinions and incorporates ideas into team decisions.
  • Facilitation:  Works with the other collaborating organizations and partners to design and implement resources and solve problems through consensus-building processes.
  • SNAP knowledge: Works with grocery stores and understands SNAP benefits, nutrition incentive programs and their implementation at farmers markets and grocery stores.
  • Marketing: Supports outreach to promote the Double Up Food Bucks program, building awareness of the program by community organizations and SNAP recipients. Works with grocers to increase interest and participation in the program. 

Basic requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, public or business administration, marketing, non-profit management, health care administration or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of successful and progressively responsible related work experience is required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The starting salary for this position is from $48,956 to $55,000 per year, depending upon qualifications. MARC offers an attractive team-oriented work environment along with a competitive fringe benefit package. MARC offers employees the flexibility to work remotely for up to two days per work week.
