Los trabajadores de salud comunitaria son trabajadores de salud pública que son miembros de confianza de las comunidades con las que trabajan y tienen un conocimiento profundo de ellas. Esta relación de confianza permite a los trabajadores de salud comunitaria actuar como vínculo e intermediario entre los servicios sociales y de salud, y la comunidad para facilitar el acceso a los servicios y mejorar la calidad y la competencia cultural en la prestación de servicios. Además, un trabajador de salud comunitaria fortalece la capacidad individual y comunitaria al aumentar el conocimiento sobre la salud y la autosuficiencia a través de diversas actividades, como la divulgación, la educación comunitaria, el asesoramiento informal, el apoyo social y la defensa.

Community health workers work with health care and community organizations as trusted members of the communities they serve and have in-depth knowledge of the communities that they serve. This relationship of trust allows community health workers to act as a connection between health, social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve quality and cultural competence in service delivery. Additionally, a community health worker strengthens individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-reliance through various activities, such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support, and advocacy.

A 100-hour program completely free and in Spanish!

Are you interested in obtaining a basic training certificate to become a community health worker? Mid-America Regional Council and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment have collaborated to offer the comprehensive 100-hour training program. For the first time in the history of our region, the course is available completely in Spanish and free.
