Salary Survey registration now open — The MARC Salary Survey offers affordable compensation data to inform competitive salaries. Through a shared services agreement with TechNet, participants gain access to salary information not only from the Kansas City region, but also from all employers in Technet’s system. Currently, more than 800 governments, agencies and nonprofits nationwide have salary information available for salary survey participants. Participants can update information at any time, ensuring consistently up-to-date data. For organizations interested in joining the survey, contact Robin Cutcliff.

REGIONAL NEWS

Bonner Springs announces new city manager — Amber Vogan has been appointed city manager of Bonner Springs. Vogan, who has served as interim city manager, has worked for the city for 10 years in various roles. She holds a master's in public administration from the University of Kansas and has 16 years of experience in local government. Read more.

 

KU Public Management Center selects new director — Kristi Northcutt will join the KU Public Management Center as its new director. Northcutt has most recently served as the city administrator of Lindsborg, Kansas. She played a key role in the development of the Kansas State Olathe campus and has held positions at Bethany College. Northcutt’s tenure starts on May 12. Learn more about Northcutt.

 

UG appoints public works director and interim director of strategic communications — Troy Shaw has been named director of public works for the Unified Government. Shaw, who has served as interim director since 2024, has been with the county since 2017. Krystal R. McFeders, the county’s current public information officer, will serve as the interim director of strategic communications. View more information.

 

North Kansas City breaks ground on River Forest Park — Construction has begun on River Forest Park in North Kansas City. The 7.5-acre park will feature a natural waterfall, wooded areas, a playground and more. The project is partially funded through an American Rescue Plan Act grant and is expected to open in early 2026. Learn more on the groundbreaking.

 

Louisburg aquatic center set to reopen — Louisburg’s new aquatic center is on track to open in time for the 2026 summer season, city officials said. The facility will include spray features, shaded areas and a rope swing. Read more about the center.

 

Register for KU’s annual management conference The 2025 Kansas City/County Manager conference will be held April 24–25 at the Oread Hotel in Lawrence, Kansas. The event will include discussions on key issues shaping local government in Kansas, including hospital conditions, economic development, rural health, public dialogue, short-term rentals, community engagement and more. MARC welcomes new director of local government services — Ashley Z. Hand has joined the MARC team as director of local government services. Hand previously served as the director of strategic communications for the city of Kansas City, Kansas, and the Unified Government. She was also the chief innovation officer for the city of Kansas City, Missouri, and was the founder of Cityfi, an award-winning urban change management consultancy business in Los Angeles. Government Training Institute introduces revamped offerings — MARC’s Government Training Institute (GTI) has launched a new training delivery option, Select and Schedule. Organizations can choose their preferred content, time and location for certain trainings. GTI continues to provide customized training on a wide range of topics. In addition, GTI now provides comprehensive event management services for conferences, resource fairs and multi-day trainings. Visit GTI.

 

Managers Roundtable set for May — The next Managers Roundtable is on Thursday, May 15 at 2:30 p.m. at Lenexa’s Justice Center. The building houses the Police Department and Municipal Court, with a nearby police training facility. Lenexa staff will give a brief overview of the project and lead a tour of the facility.  After the tour, attendees can continue networking at Brewbakers, located nearby. Register here.

Vermont explores telehealth hubs in libraries — The University of Vermont has started a pilot program to explore whether libraries can serve as telehealth hubs. The program aims to support rural communities facing barriers to care, such as distance, connectivity issues and limited technology literacy. Project leaders are assessing facility readiness and community needs to establish the feasibility of such appointments. Learn more.

 

Data dashboards help states prepare for funding uncertainties — Connecticut is leveraging data dashboards to address potential health funding shortfalls tied to federal uncertainties. The dashboards track key metrics to guide decision-making and improve health care access and affordability. Officials aim to use this approach to better navigate funding gaps. Learn more.
